Egerton University’s Faculty of Law Legal Aid Project with support from the European Union and United Nations Development Programme under the Amkeni Wakenya project is co-creating the second National Legal Aid Conference aptly themed “Access to Justice in a Socio-Economic Crisis: Lessons from COVID 19 Pandemic” to be held in Nakuru County from 28th November to 4th December 2021.

This annual conference for stakeholders offers a platform to share experiences and mechanisms of addressing access to justice for the poor and marginalized during Covid19 pandemic in different contexts.  The conference is also poised to identify and document innovative strategies adopted by the justice actors during the pandemic to ensure continuity of access to justice services while also responding effectively to emerging challenges within these unprecedented times.

The Conference focuses on the following broad thematic areas:

  • Access to justice in criminal justice system during Covid19 Pandemic:
  • Access to justice and the health sector during Covid19 pandemic.
  • Access to justice in the digital age: Opportunities and challenges:
  • Gender justice in the wake up of Covid19 Pandemic:
  • Impact of Covid19 on access to justice for People with Disabilities
  • Human Rights Protection in context of Covid19 pandemic:
  • Recovery and Rebuilding the Economy Post Covid19 Pandemic with a human rights lens
  • ADR as Alternatives Justice Systems for Service Delivery in Crisis Situation
  • Impact of Covid19 in the Legal Education
  • Incentivizing Pro-Bono lawyers in Crisis Situation
  • Paralegals as key accelerators of access to justice

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

ABSTRACT

  • Academic Papers should be a minimum of 500 words.
  • Articles for Magazine 200 words

The substantive date for 8th edition of the Mau-Egerton University Cross Country is Saturday, 5th February 2022. The event will be held at Egerton University Sports Ground Njoro Campus.


Participants are invited to take part in various race categories and there will be over Ksh. 2 million in prizes to be won. Registration for students is Ksh. 100, Ksh. 300 for staff and community, corporate Ksh. 10,000 per team.


The objectives of the cross country are to:



  • Create environmental awareness.

  • Raise funds for rehabilitation of Mau Ecosystem and Njoro River.

Egerton University announces its Biennial International Conference to be held on the 23rd, 24th and 25th March, 2022. This will be the 14th edition of the International Conference organised by the University and brings together people from academia, research institutions and other industry experts in various fields to a common forum. The Conference is organized and hosted by the Division of Research and Extension and has attracted up to 700 participants per edition in the past.

The aim of the conference is to provide a platform for participants to share their experiences and research results, deliberate and exchange innovative cutting-edge development ideas, concepts and actions.  This will include keynote speakers, paper presentations, interactive panel discussions, question and answer sessions and exhibitions. 

This will be a blended (virtual and face to face sessions) conference due to the Covid 19 pandemic. The theme of the conference will be Research and Innovations for Resilience in a Changing Environment. In highly volatile and uncertain times, organizations need to be resilient to cope effectively with unexpected events, recover from crises and even foster future success.  Underlying this theme is the acknowledgment that Science, Technology and Innovation are major drivers and enablers of social and economic transformation. The application of knowledge and innovation is necessary to attain sustainable economic growth and competitiveness.

Authors have opportunities to address this broad theme under seven sub themes:

1: Transformative Agri-food Systems

Papers under this sub theme will focus on broad issues such as crop production, soil management, crop protection, phytosanitary issues, postharvest losses, animal sciences, (production, health, livestock systems, nutrition, genomics and breeding), fisheries, antibiotic resistance in agricultural systems, food science and technology, food nutrition, emerging food borne pathogens, food value chains, chemicals in the food chain, food safety risk assessment, food  waste management, nutritional food losses, economic impact of food losses, agribusiness, food systems.

2: Health Systems, Science and Technology

Papers preferred under this sub theme would be those discussing innovations in universal healthcare services, global pandemic management and preparedness, modern and advanced laboratory and diagnostic techniques, chronic disease management, drug and vaccine development, one health, zoonoses, sanitation, health policy issues, science (molecular biology and biochemistry, biosciences, chemistry, physics, botany, microbiology, zoology and mathematics), engineering, computing and information technology.

3: Innovations in Climate Change and Natural Resource Management

Papers preferred under this sub theme would be those discussing innovations in climate change management, ecosystem restoration, smart and green development, sustainable resource use, disaster risk reduction, resource use conflict management.

4: Transformative Education for Social-Economic Adaptability

The papers under this sub theme should include education and 21st century skills, education and global citizenship, Covid19 and education, education and vaccine nationalism, competency-based education as a curriculum innovation, teacher quality and students’ achievement, application of ICT in education, Goals, Policy, funding and quality of education.

5: Resilience and Ruptures in Governance and Geopolitics in Africa

The papers under this sub theme would be on COVID19 and other factors and their impact on governance, service delivery, policing, national security, electoral politics, countering violent extremism, radicalization and terrorism, geopolitics, regional conflicts such as maritime dispute and researchers working on social issues. Resilience of civil society organizations and community structures in the face of pandemics and disasters, dwindling support of development partners, and restrictions on social interactions and delivery of vital interventions to communities, Globalization Impacts, Social networking, e-government.

6: Literature, History and Culture.

The papers preferred under this sub theme would be those discussing research outputs innovations in the following broad areas: Language and Literature, Language and Communication, Language, Identity and Culture, Literature and Gender, Nature of History, African History, Economic History, Gender and life course, Television Programming in Kenya, Online Community and Relationships, Change and People’s Daily Lives, Socio-cultural and Economic Community Needs, Kenyan traditions, Cultures and Customs, Ethnicity and Family issues,

7: Entrepreneurship, Business and Trade

The papers under this sub theme would be on e-business, e-procurement, Business Environment during pandemics, Technology and Entrepreneurship, Macro and Micro Business Environment, Online Bookkeeping, Online Training, Virtual Business Meetings and Conferences, Business and Organizational Communication, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Business Ethics and Finance.
