New dawn as alumni association gets new leadership

The Egerton University Alumni Association (EUAA) has a new Executive Board following elections conducted during the Association's AGM held on 26th November 2022 at the Milele Resort in Nakuru City.

The new Board Chair is Mr. Richard K. Rop. Also elected were Dr. Stella Wabwoba (Vice-Chair), Ms. Ann Tenya (Treasurer), Ms. Racheal Litei (Organizing Secretary) and Dr. Kuria Wamukuru (Secretary). EUAA members also elected the following chapter representatives: Dr. Duke Oeba (Nakuru), Ms. Mirriam Nangila (Western), Dr. Emmanuel Mokoro (Nairobi), Mr. Albert Ondimu (South Nyanza) and Mr. Anderson Ngolo (Coast). The Board will also have three co-opted members from Egerton University. These are Prof. Paul Kimurto (Director, Marketing and Resource Mobilization), Dr. Masaya H. Chakava (Alumni Relations Coordinator) and Ms. Fridah Murugi (Alumni Officer).

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Rop assured members that the new Board was equal to the task. He thanked the outgoing Board for steering the Association well despite the difficult circumstances occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic and strained financial resources. He noted that the new Board will work together with Egerton University to support student welfare initiatives and other University activities. On his part, the outgoing EUAA Chair, Prof. Isaac Kosgey, thanked members for supporting the activities of the Association amidst the challenges experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic period. As a result, the Board had not achieved some of the plans outlined in the strategic plan. This plan, he noted, should guide the new Board going forward. Prof. Kosgey also challenged the new Board to work closely with the University Management Board towards defining the benefits members accrue for being active EUAA members.

The AGM was attended by more than 150 Alumni representatives from various chapters from Kenya and the region. During the occasion, new life members were officially received to the Association.   The AGM also approved a request by the Chairman of the Egerton University Students Association (EUSA), Mr. Denis Odero, to incorporate a representative of students to the EUAA Board. The EUSA Chair also requested the Association to consider renovating the swimming pool at main campus for use by students. The new Board promised to consider this request once they take over office officially. The outgoing Board will officially hand over to the new in January 2023.
