Egerton University Alumni Association Awards Scholarships to Postgraduate Students, Seeks New Partnerships

The Executive Board of the Egerton University Alumni Association (EUAA), led by Chairman Dr. Richard Rop, has awarded scholarships to deserving postgraduate students in a move to assist them in completing their research work. This year, two students, Brendah Machuki and George Njema, were each awarded Ksh. 100,000 under the Masters Grant Scholarship.scholarship2

During the ceremony held at Egerton University’s Main Campus, Dr. Rop emphasized that the annual scholarship targets students with outstanding academic performance but who face financial difficulties.

"The annual competitive award is given to students with exceptional performance and deserving support due to inadequate university fees," Dr. Rop explained after completing the vetting process.

Domiciled under the Directorate of Marketing and Resource Mobilization led by Director Prof Nzula Kitaka, the EUAA  is actively seeking new partnerships with alumni members, corporate organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to help expand the scope of the scholarship.

Dr. Rop echoed Prof. Kitaka’s thoughts of expanding the scholarship. He expressed the association’s desire to grow the initiative and reach more students in the future.

"We are looking for alumni, corporate organisations, and NGOs to partner with us in achieving our vision for this scholarship program. With their support, we can make this initiative bigger and better, providing much-needed assistance to more students who require financial aid to complete their studies," said Dr. Rop.

Dr. Kuria Wamukuru, the Secretary General of the EUAA, reflected on the intensive selection process that saw many students apply for the limited scholarships.

"It has been a long search for the right winners from the many applicants who expressed interest. We have finally concluded for this session, and we urge students to always look out for the future adverts which may come soon," said Dr. Wamukuru.

The scholarship program awarded a total of Ksh. 200,000, with each student receiving Ksh. 100,000 to support their research efforts ahead of graduation.

Prof. George Ogendi, the Director of Postgraduate Studies, commended the EUAA’s initiative, noting the value it brings in fostering academic excellence and promoting community engagement.scholarship

"The initiative by the Egerton University Alumni Association is commendable. It not only promotes academic pursuits but also strengthens the relationship between alumni and the current student body," Prof. Ogendi remarked.

Dr. Rop reiterated the EUAA’s commitment to enhancing students’ academic experiences and ensuring that alumni remain closely connected to the institution. He emphasized that expanding the scholarship through strategic partnerships will allow the EUAA to reach more students in need.

"This scholarship program reflects our dedication to helping students succeed academically while also fostering lasting connections between alumni and the university. By partnering with organizations and individuals, we aim to increase our capacity to support more students in the future," added Dr. Rop.

The EUAA has been instrumental in driving philanthropic activities at Egerton University, with the scholarship program serving as a central part of their mission. Supporting postgraduate students in their research efforts is seen as a critical investment in the academic reputation of the university.

The awarded students, Brendah Machuki and George Njema, expressed their gratitude to the EUAA for the financial support, which they said will significantly aid their research work and help them progress toward graduation.

As the event came to a close, Dr. Rop encouraged students to remain vigilant for future opportunities, noting that the EUAA is committed to expanding the scholarship with the help of partners and donors.
